Gestalt Principle Part 2

4. Common Fate

common fate

common fate is when a  of groups of things move in the same direction or move together, they are said as a unit. The eye of perceiver will assume them a one unit.

For example above, the right click menu use this principle. The sub-menu will show its visibility as a group of element that are move together from elements to other elements. They are linked together and related with each other.

5. Figure and Ground

The eye differentiates an object form its surrounding area. a form, silhouette, or shape is naturally perceived as figure (object), while the surrounding area is perceived as ground (background).

Balancing figure and ground can make the perceived image more clear. Using unusual figure/ground relationships can add interest and subtlety to an image.

6. Similarity

The principle of similarity states that things which share visual characteristics such as shape, size, color, texture, value or orientation will be seen as belonging together.
Similarity occurs when objects look similar to one another. People often perceive them as a group or pattern.
